The Importance of Philosophy

Imagen
Today's post I am going to talk about a very important topic for me: philosophy and its importance in school education. To begin, and as I already mentioned in the previous post, I am a philosophy teacher and since I was studying at the university, the rumor that philosophy would be eliminated from the compulsory subjects of secondary education, it was a ghost that haunted our steps. But that was not the worst, the worst was the certainty with which someones stated that philosophy was not necessary, because they was, and are, very wrong. The type of society and the educational system in which our country is immersed (hopefully not for much longer), has implanted the erroneous idea that philosophy and the body of knowledge that don´t provide material and immediate benefit, don´t they have no value. For this reason, subjects that are thought to have greater practical utility, such as mathematics and science, are usually favored. But the error is immense, since philosophy, in additi

Postgraduate Studies

Imagen
Hi! In today´s post I am going to tell you about a postgraduate course that I would consider taking in the future. Well, the graduate course I would like to take is a Master of Educational Psychology. I am thinking on taking a master´s degree in Educational Psychology because, despite the fact that I know a lot about the educational system and how the schools, and the educational psychologists, operates (I am a philosophy teacher and I worked 4 years doing classes before studying psychology), it would allow me to have better and more specific knowledge in areas of my interest and, also, have better performance at a future work. The specific subject that I would like to study in the magister are related to the research line of situated learning and educational inclusion, such as: learning in situations of vulnerability, and educational inclusion and attention to diversity. On the other hand, if I did this master, I would like to study in Chile (probably at the University of Chile or at

My Future Job!

Imagen
Hi! Today I´m going to talk to you about the kind of job I would like to have in the future. Currently, I study Psychology, so the job I would like to have in the future is in the area of Educational Psychology. I would like to have a job in this area of psychology, because I am a teacher (psychology is my second career) and I don´t want to lose contact with the educational area. If I think about it, I don't have to imagine much what it would be like to get a job as an educational psychologist, because I worked for 4 years in schools and I know perfectly what that job is like, what its functions are and what are the qualities or skills necessary for the position. On the other hand, I don't think this specialty of psychology allows me to travel a lot. I think this job will be more of an office job, I think I will be in a school most of the time, helping students and teachers with personal problems of children or with problems of the teaching-learning process. I also don

Visiting Lota

Imagen
Hi! In this post I will invite you to visit my city: Lota.   Lota is a city located in the province of  Concepcion, in the coastal part of the Gulf of Arauco, which is why it consists of vast beaches that are filled with tourists every summer. Lota is mostly known for being the center of the coal mining activity in our country. In 1896, and realizing the large amount of coal in the area, the Cousiño family settled in the city and founded a coal mining company. Coal Miner at work Old Coal Miners The presence of the Co usiño´s in the city generated that Lota had the first electric railway in Chile, as well as the first hydroelectric plant in Chile, which was designed by Thomas Alba Edison himself at the request of the Cousiño family. Also, this family built a large botanical park in Lota, in the middle of which was the Palacio Cousiño, the family's residence in the city and an exact replica of the palace of the same name located in Santiago. Unfortunately, the palace no longer ex

One of my hobbies: watching movies!

Hello, today I am going to tell you about one of my hobbies, watching movies! I have been a true lover of cinema since I was little and I have a collection of more than 70 films in different formats: DVD, VHS, and others (all original by the way), that I hope to continue increasing. I love cinema, but I must admit that I don´t like everything that goes on the market. I prefer classic cinema and films that have good content and / or messages. And that's why today I'm going to tell you about 3 great movies.  It was very difficult to choose only 3, since I have many favorites, but I  tried to choose 3 good and special films, with varied themes and from different continents.  So here we go… Cinema Paradiso Cinema Paradiso, an italian film released in 1988 and winner of multiple awards including the 1989 Oscar Award for Best Foreign Film, tells the story of Salvatore (Toto) a boy who lives in a town in post-war Italy where the only hobby is going to the cinema. Toto befriends Al

THE BEST HOLIDAYS I HAVE HAD

Imagen
One of my favorite holidays was in July 2015, when I traveled to San Pedro de Atacama with two of my cousins, Leandro and Ángelo. My cousin Leandro lives and works in Calama, so with Ángelo we traveled to Calama and stayed at his house. We were there for two weeks and every day we went out to do something new. We toured Calama, we traveled 3 days to Iquique, 3 days to Antofagasta, but what I liked the most were the trips we made daily to San Pedro de Atacama.  Why? because the place is just wonderful. The first day we went, we toured the city and the handicraft fairs, where I bought souvenirs for my family and friends. The next day we went to San Pedro, we made guided visits to the Laguna Cejar and the Valle de la Luna. I remember that day a very cold wind was blowing, but as the hours passed, the temperature began to rise. Both places are really beautiful, seeing the desert covered in layers of salt (which looks like snow, until you touch the ground with your finger and savor it) and

MY DREAMY PLACE...

If there is a country in the world that I would like to visit, it's France. Why? ...because in my opinion, France is a country that has it all: wonderful cities, charming towns, spectacular landscapes, history and delicious cuisine. Also, visiting Paris, the capital of France, is a trip that we have planned for years with my best friend, Alejandra. I love art, history, literature and philosophy, so I would like to visit emblematic places like the Louvre Museum, the Eiffel Tower, the Palace of Versailles and the Montparnasse Cemetery, where the tombs of Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, Charles Baudelaire and Julio Cortázar are located. I also really like cinema, so I would also like to visit Cannes, a beautiful french city where one of the most famous film festivals in the world takes place. I would love to study in Paris, learn french and, why not, live there. But the demand for housing is very high, being generally very expensive and very small apartments. But dreaming
